Almost £10,000 was raised in Aldridge to fund vital Brian Tumour Research. The Las Vegas Ball, held at Calderfields Golf & Country Club, was run by Sharon Sambrook of the SDBTT Ben Sambrook fund, and Cohesion's Julie Homfray.
Sharon, mother of 9 year old Ben Sambrook, who underwent extensive treatment for his brain tumour last year, set up the fund to raise more money to research the disease, as progress into Ben's tumour type has not moved forward in 20 years. To date they have raised over £30,000 and this money will specifically fund the implementation of a molecular brain tumour test that will improve diagnosis and treatment in patients with high grade glioma, like Ben.
Julie and Sharon spent 7 months preparing the glamorous ball, where guests were treated to reception drinks and a chocolate fountain, kindly sponsored by local companies. Cohesion provided entertainers including showgirls to meet and greet the 150 guests, and the evening's entertainment continued with a dance cabaret, comedy magic show, Casino, games and a disco. Friends of the organisers built a "Little White Chapel" so that guests could renew their wedding vows with Elvis, who also performed a few numbers.
£3000 was raised on the raffle, where prizes had been donated from stars such as Jimmy Carr and Katherine Jenkins, as well as cash prizes, a Spanish holiday home and many other prizes donated by local companies. A silent auction raised £1500, and a cricket bat signed and donated by the England Cricket Board raised over £500.
Cohesion have chosen Ben's fund as their charity of 2008.
